Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of student activeness in learning mathematics on problem solving ability, to determine whether there is an effect of student discipline in learning mathematics on problem solving ability, to determine whether there is an effect of student consistency in learning mathematics on problem solving ability, and to determine whether there is an effect of student activeness, discipline, and consistency together on problem solving ability. The population consisted of 51 upper grade students. The sample was taken using saturated sampling technique as many as 51 respondents. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression analysis, t test, F test, which was preceded by tests of validity, reliability, normality test, heteroscedasticity test, and multicollinearity. The results showed that : 1) there is a positive and significant influence between students‘ activeness in learning mathematics on problem solving ability, 2) there is a positive and significant influence between students’ discipline in following mathematics learning on problem solving ability, 3) there is a positive and significant influence between students‘ consistency in doing mathematics assignments on problem solving ability, 4) there is a positive and significant influence together between students’ activeness, discipline, and consistency in doing mathematics assignments on their problem solving ability. Overall, this study confirms that students' activeness, discipline, and consistency in learning mathematics play an important role in improving their problem-solving ability.
