Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of variations of 0.439, 0.748, 0.944, and 1.128% weight of manganese in gray cast iron on chemical composition, microstructure, and toughness. The research process that will be carried out includes several tests, namely testing Chemical Composition, Microstructure, and Toughness. Chemical composition testing is carried out using a spectrometer, then microstructure (metallography) using a SEM-EDS tool, and toughness using an impact tester. The results of the chemical composition test, the higher the addition of manganese elements, the higher the percentage of manganese in gray cast iron. The results of the metallography test, all materials are dominated by graphite and pearlite phases, then the higher the addition of manganese elements to gray cast iron causes the graphite shape to enlarge and the size to become thicker. The results of the toughness test, the higher the addition of manganese to gray cast iron, the tougher it is.
