Abstract

Cylinder hydraulic is a principal component of the hydraulic system, serving the function of converting hydraulic energy into mechanical motion. This component typically comprises a tube containing a fluid, a piston capable of moving in a reciprocating manner within the tube, and a piston rod connected to the mechanical component to be moved. The hydraulic cylinder under discussion is a bucket cylinder, which constitutes one of the components of an excavator. Its function is to lift the load or material in the bucket by utilising a hydraulic system. The objective of this final project report is to ascertain the extent of damage, identify the underlying causes, delineate the repair steps, and evaluate the remaining strength of the cylinder hydraulic bucket component in the Kobelco SK200-5 excavator. The methodology employed to address the issue entails a comprehensive examination of the damage through a systematic disassembly and subsequent reassembly, accompanied by a detailed analysis of the associated calculations. Following the disassembly of the component, damage to the old O-ring and seal was identified. This was found to be brittle and tenuous, caused by hydraulic oil pressure and high temperatures. The recommended repair step is to replace the O-ring and seal components on the cylinder bucket. To prevent a recurrence of this issue, it is advised that periodic checks are conducted and that the excavator unit is kept clean, particularly in the hydraulic cylinder bucket section
