Abstract
The Korean drama “It's Okay to Not be Okay” is a drama that discusses mental health issues from various characters. The movie also tries to show the relationship between people with mental illness and the people around them. Therefore, the researcher conducted this study to find out how people perceive mental health problems in the drama. In this study, the researcher used Stuart Hall's reception analysis. The research paradigm used in this study is the interpretative paradigm and uses Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory. The results of this study show that the mentally ill group presented in the Korean drama It's Okay to Not Be Okay is represented by a stigma structure that is deeply embedded in society. The results of the diversity of meanings that emerged showed that in general the informants were in a dominant position. This means that most of the fans who became informants of this research began to show awareness and understanding of mental health problems because they not only accepted the way mental health problems were constructed from this television series. However, informants also began to negotiate or compromise the impressions presented by the media by using the understanding, knowledge, beliefs and experiences of each informant.
