Abstract

Aluminum has a number of highly desirable metallic properties, including high electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion. The addition of elements such as Manganese (Mn), Silicon (Si), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Magnesium (Mg), and Nickel (Ni), either separately or together, can significantly enhance its mechanical strength. In addition, this also results in other properties such as a low coefficient of expansion, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. This research aims to assess the results of processing Aluminum 6061 using carbon and nickel powder media at a temperature of 450°C with variations in time of 4.5 and 6 hours using the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) testing method. Based on the test data of the Al + Carbon(C) test specimens treated with time variations of4, 5, and 6 hours, morphological changes were observed. In the 4-hour and 5-hour test stages, there was a decrease in carbon content, while the aluminum content increased. In the 6-hour test, there was actually an increase in carbon content, while the nickel content decreased, and the nickel content was relatively low. The results of the analysis using SEMon Al+carbon (C)+nickel (Ni) showed morphological changes in the samples after treatment with varying times of 4, 5, and 6 hours. The highest Nickel content was found in the 6 hour post- treatment specimen with a weight of 0.095%, while the lowest Nickel content was in the 5-hour specimen with a weight of 0.046%. The Nickel content in the 4-hour stage specimen is 0.092%.
