Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world and is often accompanied by co-morbidities, requiring good care coordination as it is associated with hospitalisation and mortality rates. Implementing patient and family centred care can improve appropriate care, prioritise the patient's right to make decisions, and encourage patients to take the lead in managing their own situation. Families and health professionals must work together to build strong and open relationships with each other. This research is a descriptive method, the data was analysed by descriptive frequency method. The population of this study were ners students batch 27 and 28 as many as 167 respondents. The sample calculation technique uses total sampling taken from a population that meets the criteria as many as 167 respondents with the inclusion criteria being a nursing professional student at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta and has taken the medical-surgical nursing phase. The instruments used in this study were demographic questionnaires and patient & family centred care questionnaires for heart failure patients. The results showed that most of the nursing profession students (86.8%) thought that patient and family centred care in heart failure was sufficient. Assessment of patient- and family-centred care in heart failure from the perspective of nursing students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta is sufficient. It is hoped that this research can be a reference and develop research on the important role of families towards heart failure patients to produce better quality of family support.
