Abstract

The development of the technology world has caused a shift from fossil fuel vehicle to Electrical Vehicles. High pollution levels, high fuel prices, and increasingly sophisticated technology are factors driving the transition to electric vehicles. The problem faced with these electric vehicle lies in their braking system, where the braking still uses mechanical braking. This mechanical braking has a weakness, namely the occurrence of mechanical losses that can generate heat during braking. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the effectiveness level of electric braking, where this electric braking system becomes one of the solutions in replacing the role of the mechanical braking system. One of the electric braking methods that researchers use is regenerative braking, where this method can perform braking and recharging the battery by utilizing wasted kinetic energy into electrical energy. In its application, an external DC generator is required that can produce voltage, and this voltage is then increased using a buck-boost converter. The voltage and current output from this buck-boost converter can be adjusted so that the output is constant. Based on the tests that have been carried out, the average stopping time was 8.23 seconds when unridden and 20.55 seconds when ridden. The average voltage and current generated when unridden were 3.62 V and 0.63 A, while when ridden were 3.43 V and 0.23 A.
