Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the role of the brick home industry in Sumurpule Village in improving the community's economy and describe what obstacles the brick home industry in Sumurpule Village faces in improving the community's economy. The research method used is qualitative using a etnography research design. Data collection techniques use observation and interviews. The validity of the data uses source triagulation and method triagulation techniques. Data analysis techniques use interactive techniques. The results of this research show: 1) With the existence of a brick home industry in Wellspule Village, it can create jobs in the surrounding community, thereby reducing the village unemployment rate and increasing village income. 2) The obstacles faced by the home brick industry are production and marketing factors. For production constraints, namely the lack of brick supplies, this can hamper the brick production process because many stones are left in the rain so drying takes longer. For the marketing process, there are obstacles when competitors damage the market by selling cheaper bricks. The solution to this obstacle is to install temporary tents and set prices according to the market. Apart from that, the lack of support/assistance from the village government is also an external obstacle to the home brick industry in Sumurpule Village.
