Abstract

Providing care to family members with Diabetes Mellitus can be a burden for the family, commonly known as Family Burden. This study was conducted to identify family burdens in caring for family members with Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of the Sumowono Public Health Center, Semarang Regency, including caregiver characteristics, subjective, objective, and iatrogenic family burdens. This type of research is descriptive with a cross-sectional study design. The sampling used a total sampling technique, namely, as many as 80 respondents. Data collection was carried out in December 2022 - January 2023 using interview techniques with a questionnaire measuring tool with as many as 23 question items. The data analysis technique used is univariate analysis. The results showed that most respondents were aged 45-59 years, female, had elementary school education, worked as laborers/farmers, and most caregivers had cared for patients for ≥ 5 years. Most of the respondents stated that the overall family burden was in the high category (52.5%), the subjective family burden was in the high category (52.5%), the objective family burden was in the high class (58.75%), the iatrogenic family burden was in the high category. (57.5%). Health workers are expected to be able to develop family empowerment programs and health promotion to reduce the burden on families in caring for family members with Diabetes Mellitus.
