Abstract
In this era of globalization, many deviant behaviors are found by teenagers due to various factors such as increasingly sophisticated technology, family factors and environmental factors. Islamic religious education is a very important pillar of life and plays an important role in creating morality and ethics. We must pay more attention to this issue. This research aims to describe: 1) the role of Islamic religious education in forming the Islamic character of students at SMPN 2 Boyolali. 2) supporting and inhibiting factors in the formation of Islamic character of students at SMPN 2 Boyolali. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data collection through interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research show that: 1) the role of Islamic religious education is carried out through: linking religious learning material with life, habituation, extracurricular Islamic spirituality (ROHIS), example, and giving punishment. 2) supporting factors in forming students' Islamic character, namely: supporting school coordination, religious activities, and motivation. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors are: student awareness and the social environment around students.
