Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine the antibiotic potential of sugarcane endophytic fungal isolates (Saccharum officinarum) against Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883 and ESBL. Methodology: This study was carried out at the Microbiology Laboratory of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta's Faculty of Pharmacy as a laboratory experiment using a posttest only control group design. Cultured on Mc Conkey medium and incubated at 37°C for 24-48 hours, the samples used were Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883 and ESBL. Finding out which sugarcane endophytic fungus isolates are antibiotic active by measuring the inhibition zone diameter in millimeters (mm). Five groups were formed from the total number of samples. One group served as a control, while the other two groups received antibiotics in the form of Ciprofloxacin or dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The third group tested the effects of sugarcane endophytic fungal isolates (Saccharum officinarum) at 100%, 50%, and 25% crude antibiotic concentrations. Following a Mann-Whitney post hoc test, the data was subjected to a number of statistical tests, including a normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk, a homogeneity test with the Levene, and a KruskallWallis test. Results: The results of this study found that there is an antibiotic effect of sugarcane endophytic fungus isolates (Saccharum officinarum) against Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883 and ESBL. Applications/Originality/Value: Addressing the global health challenge of antibiotic resistance by exploring natural antibacterials, namely sugarcane endophytic fungal isolates, which are considered more effective in killing bacteria
