Abstract
Transportation or vehicle problems in Indonesia continue to increase as the years go by, especially in urban areas. The city of Surakarta experienced growth with an average of 4% each year where the number of motorized vehicles in 2019 reached 551,607 units. The ease with which people own private vehicles and not being balanced with road growth will cause problems such as traffic jams and on the other hand, Surakarta City only has 46.72 km2 with a population density reaching 11,193 square meters in 2022. Traffic volume and road capacity can affect the smoothness of the roads. When traffic is heavy there will be a decrease in vehicle speed resulting in a buildup of vehicles and resulting in the road being unable to accommodate the volume of traffic and affecting the level of road service. From the main problem above, researchers are interested in conducting research on congestion problems on Surakarta City roads, especially on arterial roads. The objectives of this research include: 1. Analyzing the condition of capacity and level of road service on arterial roads in Surakarta City. 2. Analyze the level of traffic congestion based on the level of road service on the arterial roads of Surakarta City. This research uses survey and observation approach methods. The data used in this research uses primary and secondary data sources from data processing of traffic volume (V) and road capacity (C). The results and conclusions of this research are 1. The capacity of each arterial road in Surakarta City is different because each road has varying conditions and there are influencing factors. 2. The level of traffic congestion is the result of the classification of road service levels as seen from the v/c ratio results. The level of congestion on the arterial roads of Surakarta City is also due to things such as large vehicles (trucks/buses) often passing by but there are very high side obstacles but the level of congestion is low due to the road closure effect of the project.
