Abstract
The identification of virus types extends far beyond the identification of efficient antiviral drugs. This rate of growth was caused by the high rate of virus mutation. In the last few years, there has been a surge in the emergence of new types of viruses, especially COVID-19. The discovery of lead compounds is an important stage in the development of antiviral agents. Pyrimidine compounds and their derivatives are known to have various pharmacological activities, such as anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral. The ethyl 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate compounds is an example of a pyrimidine derivative. This study aims to examine the antiviral activity of the ethyl 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate compound using Newcastle disease as a model. Embionated chicken eggs aged 9-11 days are used as growth media for the Newcastle disease virus. Study on antiviral activity used the hemagglutination test method, supported by the ability of the virus to agglutinate erythrocytes. The results of the study in the form of inhibition percentage, obtained the percentage of inhibition at concentration of 1 µg/mL was 0%, a concentration of 10 µg/mL was 0%, and a concentration of 100 µg/mL was 0%. Based on the percentage of inhibition obtained, it shows that the ethyl 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate compound does not have antiviral activity against Newcastle disease.
