Abstract

As social beings, humans are required to be able to establish relationships with other people for a better well-being. To be able to have good relationships with other people, good self-disclosure are also needed. The pressure that occurs in the emerging adult period causes problems in the ability to self-disclosure. Parents have an important role in the development of children in this study is self-disclosure by parenting. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship and the influence of authoritative parenting on self-disclosure in emerging adults. This study uses a quantitative correlational approach using a incidental sampling technique by distributing a questionnaire scale to 129 male and female participants with an age range of 18-25 years and analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation. The results showed that there was a positive relationship between authoritative parenting and self-disclosure with a significance value of p = 0.002 and r = 0.267. This means that the better the authoritative parenting pattern, the better the self-disclosure for individuals in the emerging adult phase.
