Abstract
Generally, swear words used by people in their lives did not have specific meanings whether or not it was worthwhile. The research’s aims are to (1) identify the types of English swear words and (2) to describe the reasons of using swear words. This research uses descriptive qualitative and the design is descriptive method. In this materials, the researcher used document as the sources of data, since it is written material. The source of data is Bad Boys for Life Movie. Then, the research data are dialogues spoken by the main characters in the movie containing English swearing words. In collecting the data, the researcher applied content analysis. Result of analysis, it was found that (1) most dominant type of English swearing found in the dialogue of the main characters in the movie is abusive swearing word which appear in 14 data (70%). Then followed by auxiliary swearing which appear in 4 data (20%). Then, expletive swearing which appear in 2 data (10%). The type of English swear words that did not appear was humorous swearing. (2))There are three reasons for swearing, namely psychological motives which are the most dominant found in the dialogue of the main character in the film that appears in 17 data (85%). Then followed by linguistic motives that appeared in 2 data (10%) and social motives in 1 data (5%).
