Abstract
Choosing is one of the activities that we always do in our daily lives, whether we choose consciously or not, including choosing a career. Career is a development and progress both in life, work, or one's position. In the era of globalization that is developing very quickly, choosing a career is one of the challenges and problems, especially for students who are in the final year. It takes a long preparation and a lot of provisions to achieve the expected career. The purpose of this study was to determine the variety and type of career development, factors that influence career development, suitability with majors, and preparations made by UMS POR students in career development. This study uses a descriptive method with a mixed approach, namely quantitative and qualitative, for data collection techniques using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The subjects in this study were POR UMS students class 2017-2020 with a sample of 200 students using systematic random sampling technique. Based on the results of research and analysis that has been carried out, it is known that the career development choices of POR UMS students who are the main priority are working 62%, professional education 24%, continuing master's studies 14%, and alternative career development or a second career development option, namely working 47%, Professional education 28%, 21% continued with master's studies with the classification of the field of work most interested in being in the field of public service/services 55% and the type of work most in demand is as a teacher. Physical education and sports 59%. The suitability of career development with the majors taken for work is 88%, for professional education 78%, and for continuing master's studies 71%. The internal factor that most influences students' career development is 39% interest. Meanwhile, external factors that influence student career development are family 45%, environment 34%, social and economic conditions 11%, and welfare 10%. And as many as 81% of students from the total sample have prepared themselves to reach the chosen career
