Abstract

Reading the Qur'an is a basic ability that must be possessed by every student, because the process of learning Islam itself is a condition with the proposition and sources taken from the Qur'an. SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta as one of the formal educationalinstitution that is characterized by Islamic religion, aims to produce graduates who have character, morally, have a broad and competent insight and able to read the Qur'an well and correctly according to the rules of science tajwid . To achieve the goal of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta made several efforts to improve the ability to read and write Al-Qur'an students. This research was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis technique on qualitative data uses field data. the validity of the data using source triangulation techniques and technique triangulation. Analysis of the data used is interactive analysis by observing interviews and documentation. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the efforts made by PAI teachers in improving the ability to read and write the Qur'an at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surakarta through two activities, namely BTA extracurricular activities. (1) Students who are still Iqro', are guided intensively by being guided one by one and always given motivations that can foster student enthusiasm; (2) students who have moderate reading skills are guided by using the drill method; and (3) students who have been able to read the Qur'an fluently and makharajul letters Even though tajwid is not all correct, it is guided by independent study. The teacher only listens to the students' reading and directs if there are errors. while intracurricular activities take place in teaching and learning activities.
