Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between body image perception and self-confidence in adolescent girls in Pontianak. The hypothesis proposed is that there is a positive relationship between perception of body image and self-confidence. The subjects in this study were teenage girls in the second grade of high school in Pontianak who were taken using a purposive sampling technique with a total of 218 subjects who were in accordance with the characteristics of the research subjects. Methods of collecting data using quantitative methods through body image perception scale and self-confidence scale which have been modified according to the characteristics of the subject. Analysis of correlation data using product moment. Based on data analysis, the coefficient value of body image perception variable (X) and self-confidence (Y) is 0.522, which means that there is a significant relationship between body image perception and self-confidence in adolescent girls in Pontianak. The correlation coefficient is positive so that the higher the perception of body image in young women, the higher their self-confidence, which means that in developmental psychology the higher the perception of body image in the subject, the higher the self-confidence of the subject so that the subject can carry out developmental tasks with good.
