Abstract
Muh Ali Barokah, S200190001. The Value of Character Education in the Novel of Orang-Orang Biasa Ordinary People by Andrea Hirata with a Sociology of Literature Approach and Its Implementation in Indonesian Language Learning in Vocational School. Thesis. A Graduate School, Master of Indonesian Language Education, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, 2021. This study aims (1) to describe the structure of Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People novel by Andrea Hirata; (2) to describe the values of character education in the novel of Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People by Andrea Hirata; and (3) to describe the implementation of research results in Indonesian Language learning in Vocational School. This research approach is descriptive qualitative. Collecting data using library technique, reading and note-taking technique. The data analysis used the dialectical method. The results of this study indicate (1) The structure of Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People novel by Andrea Hirata is in the form of story facts and themes. The facts of the story include; plot, characters, and setting. The storyline is an advanced plot which is divided into 6 stages of play: exposition, conflict, complication, crisis, resolution, and decision. Character characters based on psychological, sociological, and physiological dimensions, as well as the role of the characters. The setting of the story takes place in the center of Belantik City, Bangka Belitung Islands in December around 2012-2013 in the afternoon in people who have not known crime for a long time. The theme of Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People novel by Andrea Hirata is the sacrifice of a mother in realizing her child's dreams. (2) The value of character education contained in Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People novel by Andrea Hirata, namely; (a) religious, (b) nationalist, (c) independent, (d) mutual cooperation, and (e) integrity. (3) The results of this study in the form of an analysis of the structure and character values contained in the novel of Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People by Andrea Hirata can be implemented in Indonesian Language learning in Vocational School class XII in learning literature with Basic Competence (KD) 3.8. namely analyzing the content and language of the novel. As a teaching material, Orang-orang Biasa Ordinary People novel by Andrea Hirata has met the criteria for good literature teaching materials, namely in terms of language, psychology, and cultural background.
