Abstract
This study purposed to describe the development of knowledge competence (knowledge) about concepts and facts through a crossword puzzle strategy in class VII Tahfidz SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura following the obstacles and solutions. This type of research was qualitative with a case study approach. The subjects of this study were principals, the vice curriculum, PPKn teachers, grade VII students of Tahfidz SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura. Data collection techniques in this study used interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis technique used an interactive model. Triangulation of data using triangulation of data sources and triangulation of data collection techniques. The results of this study indicated that the development of knowledge competences regarding concepts and facts in the Civics Education learning processed through a crossword puzzle strategy for the seventh-grade students of Tahfidz SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura, this was done by the teacher giving questions in the form of crossword puzzles that were uploaded through Schoology page. Students answered crossword questions as reinforcement for remembering terms, understanding special knowledge, distinguishing category and classification knowledge, and understanding basic and general knowledge. The obstacle experienced in this study was that students had difficulty remembering terms so that they have not been able to answer crossword questions correctly and did not match the questions. Students also had difficulty digesting special knowledge, distinguishing category and classification knowledge, and difficulty understanding basic and general knowledge in the Civics Education material that has been given by the teacher. The solution to this problem was that the teacher gave more than one question and questions were made repeatedly by the achievement of the expected knowledge. The teacher also provided reading material or a summary of PowerPoint slides, and students were given the opportunity for information from other relevant sources.
