Abstract

The purpose of this research are to: 1) Describe the parenting pattern of parents who are included in the category of underprivileged families in Denggungan Village, Banyudono District, Boyolali Regency. 2) To describe what are the supporting and inhibiting factors in instilling Islamic character values to their children in Denggungan Village. This research is a descriptive research by conducting field research using a phenomenological qualitative approach. The subjects of this study consisted of five pairs of parents belonging to the category of underprivileged families in Dukuh Brajan, Minggiran, and Gandanan in Denggungan Village. In collecting data using the method of observation, interviews, and documentation which were then analyzed through four steps, namely data collection activities, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that from the five underprivileged families, different parenting patterns and inculcation of Islamic character values were obtained: 1) Democratic parenting was applied to Mrs. Ngatinem's family. From this way of parenting, the values that have been successfully instilled in their children are patience, responsibility, caring, discipline, and forgiveness. 2) Similar to the parenting style applied in the family of Mrs. Sri and Mr. Bambang, it tends to be democratic parenting. From this parenting pattern, the values that have been successfully instilled in their children are faith and piety, discipline, love of reading, responsibility, and caring. 3) Not much different from the couple Mr. Rambat and Mrs. Yatni who raised their children with a democratic parenting style. The democratic parenting style that is applied produces results for the values that are instilled, namely faith and piety which include honesty and patience. 4) In contrast to the way of parenting found in the couple Mr. Surono and Mrs. Jumiati tend to permissive parenting. Through the applied parenting pattern, the values that have been successfully implanted in children have not been found. 5) Mixed authoritarian-democratic parenting is found in the pair of Mrs. Jumiati and Mr. Maryadi, this can be seen from Mr. Maryadi who tends to authoritarian parenting, while Mrs. Jumiati is more inclined to democratic parenting. From the combination of parenting patterns, the values that are embedded in children are honesty, compassion, caring, responsibility, and independence.
