Abstract

The development of the 21st century world, information and communication technology or ICTis growing very rapidly, which has had a tremendous impact in various sectors, one of which is education. This research was a literature study that aimed to: (1) determining the use of Google Earth as an interactive medium in geography subjects; (2) knowing the benefits of Google Earth interactive media in geography subjects; (3) knowing the application of Google Earth interactive media on geography learning materials. This research was a qualitative research with a systematic literature review method. This research is a type of qualitative research using a systematic review as a research method. This study used data collection techniques through the publication database www.garuda.ristekbrin.go.id www.springer.com www.sciencedirect.com by using the keywords ’’google earth”, “pemanfaatan media interaktif”, “kemampuan visual”, “google earth media”, “interative media”, “use google earth media”. There are 270 articles related to that keyword and only 21 articles were selected. The results showed that: (1) The use of geography learning media is one of them in the form of Google Earth. Google Earth is part of science and technology, so it can be used to find out various information related to a country and even the world, an interactive mapping application issued by Google that displays a map of the globe in 3D, students will be more familiar and more mastering computers and the internet, able to foster student enthusiasm and focus in the process of teaching and learning activities, (increasing knowledge of geography and skills in using technology. (2) By utilizing interactive media Google Earth can improve student learning outcomes, overcome the passive nature of students, improve critical thinking, increasing literacy, increasing spatial thinking skills and developing critical analytical skills (3) The application of Google Earth interactive media on geography learning materials using methods needs to be adapted to the situation and condition of the students concerned. This is because each student has a different character so an educator must be smart in attracting the attention of students during the teaching and learning process.
