Abstract
This research aims to describe the implementation, effectiveness, constraints and solutions to the used of controversial audio-visual media and think pair and share strategies in improving critical thinking. This researched used quantitative methods with pre-experimental research. This design used One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The sample of this research was students of class X IPA II with a population of 25 people. Data collection technique used a questionnaire, observation and documentation. The validity test of this study used product moment correlation with rough numbers of 20 questions, all questions are valid and 0 was invalid, the reliability test used the KR-20 formula. The results of the reliability test were 12.96 > 1.00 (very high). Analysis prerequisite test using normality, linearity and homogeneity tests. The results of all prerequisite tests for analysis are normally distributed, linear and have homogeneous distribution. The hypothesis test of this research used pretest posttest correlation and paired sample t-test. The results of the pretest posttest correlation test showed a significant value of 0.267 > 0.05, meaning that there was no relationship between the results of the pretest posttest. The paired sample t test was known to have tcount as much as 3,288 with a significance of 2 tailed 0.003 then 3,288 > 2,063 or tcount > ttable and sig value. 2 tailed was smaller than 0.05 (0.003 < 0.05) then significantly H0 is accepted and Ha was rejected. This means that there was a significant difference in pretest and posttest data when tested on students and it can be decided that the used of audio-visual media contains controversial and think strategies. pair and share can improve the critical thinking. The obstacle faced when carrying out the research was the time limitation. An alternative solution to overcome obstacles is that researchers must be able to manage time as effectively as possible so that the research carried out can run smoothly.
