Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the structure of the novel in Asura: The Tale of the Vanquised by Anand Neelakantan based on Robert Stanton's theory, (2) to describe the inner conflict experienced by Rahwana's character Asura: The Tale of the Vanquised by Anand Neelakantan according to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, (3 ) describes the plan for implementing the analysis of inner conflict in character education in high school. The results of this inner conflict analysis are useful as alternative literature teaching materials for students that contain character education values. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research with content analysis research design. The object of this research is the novel Asura: The Tale of the Vanquised by Anand Neelakantan. The data in this study is qualitative data, namely Rahwana's inner conflict in the novel Asura: The Tale of the Vanquised by Anand Neelakantan. The data source is the biography of Anand Neelakantan as the author of the novel Asura: The Tale of the Vanquised and a journal that refers to research on inner conflict. The data collection technique used in this research is the library and note-taking technique. The data analysis technique in this study used qualitative data analysis techniques, namely dialectical techniques. This study resulted in the structure of the novel Asura: The Tale of the Vanquised which was studied using Robert Stanton's theory, namely the theme and facts of the story including plot, characters, and setting. The theme in this novel is the kingdom, has a mixed plot, the protagonist is Rahwana and the antagonist is Wibisana, and the time setting is when Rahwana's reign is in the kingdom, the setting is in Jambudwipa, and the social setting is the Gods and the Asuras. This study also produces data on inner conflicts that are studied using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory which consists of the id, ego, and superego which results in the understanding that Rahwana is a person who has a strong desire, but awareness of reality and moral values is still low. The data is then implemented into character education values, namely religious, honesty, caring, independence, logical thinking, daring to take risks, action-oriented, leadership, responsibility, self-confidence, aware of rights and obligations, obedient to social rules, politeness, and value diversity.
