Abstract

Indonesian language learning aims to help students develop language and communication skills. Because, in learning Indonesian, students are guided to have four skills at once so that students can understand the learning that will be conveyed. The author is interested in conducting research on the learning process using the storytelling method which has the advantage of developing listening skills as well as speaking skills. The method in this study uses a qualitative descriptive method. This study aims to 1. Describe the steps in applying the storytelling method in learning Indonesian to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Karangrejo. 2. Describe the strengths and weaknesses of students in applying the storytelling method in learning Indonesian for Class VII SMPN 1 Karangrejo. The results of the research when applying the storytelling learning method to Indonesian language learning in class VII students were very enthusiastic about applying the storytelling method. Students are very happy when participating in Indonesian language learning, and more importantly students are able to convey information correctly without adding or subtracting information. The advantage of using the storytelling method in Indonesian language learning is that when learning in class students will feel happy and not feel bored to take part in Indonesian language learning. Thus using the retelling method can improve student learning outcomes and be able to train students' courage in speaking and conveying information. This retelling method is in groups, relying on listening skills and speaking skills. The text of the fable story is considered very suitable to be used in applying the retelling method. Because, the text of the fable story contains a storyline that is easy for students to understand and the language is very simple so that students will easily understand the material given.
