Abstract

This study aims to describe the difficulties experienced by students in solving series and series questions in online learning and to analyze the factors causing difficulties in learning mathematics, especially in the sequence and series material during online learning in class XI students of SMA Negeri Colomadu. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were class XI students of SMA Negeri Colomadu for the 2020/2021 academic year. Data collection techniques used in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the difficulties experienced by students consist of: 1) Difficulty in concepts, namely students do not understand the concept of geometric sequences and series so that students do not use the formula correctly to solve the given problem. 2) Difficulties in the principle that students are often not careful in the process of arithmetic operations, especially on questions that have more arithmetic operations. 2) Difficulties in verbal problems, namely students are less careful in entering the appropriate data and confusion in making it into the mathematical model so that students cannot draw conclusions about what is actually asked in the problem. The internal factors that influence students' difficulties in the material of geometric sequences and series are psychological factors, while physiological factors are less influential. On the other hand, when viewed from external factors that influence is the condition of the school, while the condition of the family and society is less influential.
