Abstract

Friendship is one of the most important things in a teenager's life. However, not all teenagers can establish good friendships, this is determined by many factors, including self-disclosure and gender. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between self-disclosure and friendship and to find out the difference between self-disclosure and friendship in terms of gender. The population in this study were students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta with a sample of 120 students aged 18-21 years who had friends. The sample in this study was determined using the quota sampling technique. The data collection method uses a friendship scale and a self-disclosure scale that is distributed via a google form link. The data analysis technique used Pearson product moment correlation and one way ANOVA. Based on the results of the correlation analysis, the coefficient value (r) = 0.710 with sig. 0.00 (p < 0.05) which means that there is a significant positive relationship between self-disclosure and friendship. The effective contribution given by the variable of self-disclosure to friendship is 51%. This means that there are still 49% of other factors that can affect friendship. Then based on the results of comparative data analysis, it was obtained that the value of (F) calculated friendship was 4.894 with sig 0.029 (p <0.05) and (F) which means that there is a significant difference between the friendships of male and female Muhammadiyah University Surakarta students, where women have higher friendships than men. then on self-disclosure obtained (F) count 16.856 with sig 0.00 (p<0.05) which means there is a significant difference between male and female self-disclosure of Muhammadiyah Surakarta University students, where women have higher self-disclosure than men.
