Abstract

This study aims to describe, find out the constraints, and alternative solutions made by the teacher in developing the character of social care for deaf students in Anugerah Special School Colomadu, Karanganyar Regency. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were classroom teachers who were deaf students and the principal of the Anugerah Special School. Data collection techniques in this study using interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity of the data used two kinds of triangulation, namely techniques and data sources. Data analysis was performed by applying an interactive model. Indicators of the value of social care used in this study are: 1) treating others politely, 2) acting politely, 3) being tolerant of differences, 4) being able to work together, 5) being willing to be involved in school and community activities. The efforts made by the teacher can develop the character of social care for deaf students in Anugerah Special School through habituation of good behavior in accordance with the character of social care. The obstacle that the teacher encountered in developing the character of social care for deaf students in Anugerah Special School was the use of body language which not all of them could be understood, both from the student and the teacher. Alternative solutions made by the teacher to overcome the constraints of developing social caring characters for deaf students in Anugerah Special School by selecting simple body language movements so that it can make it easier for students to understand that the teacher is explaining something, the habit of gathering together from teachers and students will increase the relationship of feelings and emotions with each other, thus honing your communication skills. Based on these conclusions, it raises implications if the teacher wants deaf students to have a high social sense through the development of social caring characters.
