Abstract
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is felt by various groups, including college students. As the agent of change, students are required to be able to adapt to any different conditions, although the reality says otherwise. The COVID-19 pandemic has made the students experience a decline in their psychological well-being. Limited space for movement, the burden of academic tasks, boredom, fear of submitting assignments, are among the things that make students experience disturbance in their psychological well-being. As a result, students may experience several psychological well-being problems, such as anxiety and stress. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between academic stress and psychological well-being during the pandemic. This research is using correlational quantitative method. The subjects participated in this study consists of 443 students in Indonesia aged 18-21 years. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling. Psychological well-being and academic stress were measured using scales which then distributed via google form. The data analysis was carried out using Pearson’s Product Moment correlation by SPSS for windows. The results shows a correlation coefficient of = -0.525; p = 0.001 (p <0.05) which indicates a negative and significant correlation between academic stress and psychological well-being with 27.5% of effective contribution, thus academic stress contributes 27.5% to psychological well-being. This shows that the proposed hypothesis is proven, so it can be concluded that the higher the academic stress of the students, the lower their psychological well-being and the lower the academic stress of the students, the higher their psychological well-being will be.
