Abstract

A prospective teacher must be able to communicate interpersonally well, but there are still prospective teacher students who experience problems in interpersonal communication. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-concept and interpersonal communication among students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in the Accounting Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in 2018. This study used a quantitative approach with a population of 330 students from the FKIP Accounting Education Study Program UMS in 2018. totaling 142 people. The sampling technique in this study used non-random cluster sampling. The data collection tool uses a scale, namely the Self-Concept Scale and the Interpersonal Communication Scale. Data analysis was done by using Product Moment analysis. The results showed the r value of 0.264 with a significance (p) of 0.002 (p <0.05), which means that there is a significant positive relationship between self-concept and student interpersonal communication. The higher the self-concept, the higher the interpersonal communication. The self-concept category is included in the high category with the empirical mean (RE) = 53.69, and higher than the hypothetical mean (RH) = 45. While the results of the categorization of interpersonal communication get the empirical average (RE) = 95.40 and higher than the hypothetical average (RH) = 80 which is included in the high category. The implication of this research is that students who have a positive self-concept will give birth to a positive pattern of interpersonal communication.
