Abstract
Background: The incidence of metabolic syndrome still occurs in female workers and if it is left untreated, it will affect the quality and health of female workers and has an impact on the high cost of treatment. Metabolic syndrome can occur if it meets 3 conditions of several criteria; waist circumference ≥88 cm, triglyceride levels ≥150 mg/dl, HDL levels <50 mg/dl for women, systolic blood pressure ≥130 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure ≥85 mmHg and fasting blood glucose ≥110 mg/dl. One of the factors that can influence the occurrence of metabolic syndrome is sodium intake and higher BMI which can cause hypertension and an increased waist circumference. General Purpose: This study aimed to determine the correlation between sodium intake and BMI with the incidence of metabolic syndrome in female workers at PT Iskandar Indah Printing Textile Surakarta. Methodology: This study used cross sectional design with a sample of 34 female workers based on inclusion criteria that have 26-45 years of age, able to communicate well, be willing to be sampled, not pregnant, not on a diet and not fasting. Sodium intake was derived from a form SQ-FFQ, BMI was obtained from the calculation of weight and height, waist circumference used metline, measurement of blood pressure by means of tensimeter digital brand Omron, HDL levels were measured by the method CHOD PAP, triglyceride levels were measured by the method of GPO PAP and fasting blood glucose levels using the GOD PAP method. Test sodium intake and BMI correlation used chi-square and the prevalence of risk. Results: 64.7% of respondents had metabolic syndrome. Most of the respondents experienced high systolic blood pressure (79.4%), high diastolic blood pressure (82.4%), high triglyceride levels (58.8%), low HDL levels (85.3%), normal fasting blood sugar. (100%), normal waist circumference (58.8%), more sodium intake (94.12%) and BMI> 25 kg / m2 (61.76%). The results of the association test showed that sodium intake had no correlation with the incidence of metabolic syndrome (p = 0.282) and BMI had a significant correlation with the incidence of metabolic syndrome with p = 0.001, the odds-ratio (OR) value was 2.8 with a 95% confidence intervals CI = 95%) of 1,210-6,413 Conclusion: Sodium intake is not associated with metabolic syndrome and Body Mass Index has a correlation with metabolic syndrome
