Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious chronic disease caused by the pancreas that cannot produce enough insulin. DM prevalence continues to increase every year. Many factors trigger the increase in DM prevalence, including hypertension, obesity, smoking habits, and physical activity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between physical activity and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the city of Surakarta. This research method is analytic observational with a case control approach (Case Control). The case sample was taken using purposive sampling technique, while the control sample was taken from the case family (husband / wife / sibling who lives in one house with the case) or case neighbors (in the scope of one RW). The number of samples in this study were 124 samples with a ratio of 1: 1 consisting of 62 cases and 62 control groups. Data collection was carried out by interview via telephone network and direct interview using google form. Statistical test was performed using the Chi-square test. The results showed the value of p = 0.193> a (0.05) with a value of OR = 1,746 (95%CI = 0,835-3649). The conclusion of this study is that there is no relationship between physical activity and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Surakarta.
