Abstract
The lack of water catchment areas in the city of Surakarta due to dense development has resulted in the city of Surakarta experiencing various environmental problems such as flooding, land subsidence, and most recently, the problem of the groundwater crisis. The objectives of this study are: (1) to analyze the water catchment area in Surakarta City and (2) to analyze the harmony of the watershed conditions with the regional spatial layout in Surakarta City. The research method used is a survey method and tiered quantitative assessment with Geographical Information Systems analysis. The results showed: (1) the potential for water infiltration in the city of Surakarta resulted in six classes of water infiltration conditions including good, critical, critical and critical classes which are well known in all sub-districts in Surakarta, the classification of water catchment area maps in the city of Surakarta has a critical trend as wide as 48% of the total area of Surakarta City is occupied by 90 land units, while for normal natural it is 46% land units, and good water infiltration condition class is the lowest area classification, 0.01% which is occupied by 1 land unit. (2) The results of the map of the alignment of water catchment areas to the spatial layout of Surakarta City are dominated not in line with the area of 89% of the total area of the City of Surakarta, this is because the research area is an urban area which is the center of settlements and community activities such as industry, trade and services. The water catchment area is 11% of the total area of Surakarta City.
