Abstract
Background: In today's era, there are many health problems, one of which is stroke. Stroke is a major cause of impaired physical function and one of the main causes of increased morbidity and mortality in adults. Stroke causes nerve and muscle changes secondary to lesion of upper motor neurons, leading to abnormally increased muscle tone and muscle stiffness due to muscle atrophy and hypertonia. Provision of Proporioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching can trigger an autogenic inhibitory mechanism resulting in decreased muscle tension through stimulation of the golgi tendon organ (GTO), this mechanism causes a decrease in stretch resistance which can increase flexibility and improve LGS. Objective: To determine whether there is an effect of Proporioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation on reducing spasticity in stroke patients. Methods: This study uses the critical review method which uses a system of analysis and evaluation of books, articles and journals. The data search was based on a literature search engine using the keywords "hold relax" or "stroke" then combined with " Proporioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation for stoke". Identify the type of Quartile (Q) of the articles used using the Scimago Journal and Country Rank (SJR) search engine. Results: According to reviews from several journals, it was found that there was a good effect when giving Proporioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation on reducing the spasticity of stroke patients, thereby increasing the performance of muscle repair and function.
