Abstract
This research is a literary study involving the psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud. Psychology and literature are two different but interrelated branches of science. The purpose of this research is to describe the character of the main female character, to describe the form of conflict experienced by the main female character, and to describe the ego defense mechanisms of the female main character. The data source of this research is a novel entitled Kei: I Found Love in the Middle of War by Erni Aladjai. This type of research method used in this research is research with qualitative methods. Data collection techniques in this study used reading, listening, and taking notes. The results of this study are 1) Based on Sigmund Freud's theory, Namira Evav's characters are generous, compassionate, caring for others, religious, intelligent, and mature. The effect of the three structures of id, ego, and superego in Namira's character can be said to be balanced. 2) The conflicts experienced by Namira are divided into two, external conflicts and internal conflicts. Namira's external conflicts are riots, loss, and harassment. Namira's internal conflicts take the form of fear, worry, sadness, hopelessness, confusion, and trauma. 3) The conflicts experienced by Namira, both external and internal conflicts, can be resolved by Namira through several ego defense mechanisms, such as sublimation, diversion, reaction formation, rationalization, altruism, and repression.
