This study aimed to analyze students' metacognitive skills in solving HOTS-based problems in social arithmetic material. This type of research was descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were six grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Colomadu with different categories of metacognition skills, namely high, medium, and low metacognition skill. The data collection techniques were written tests and task-based interviews. The data analysis techniques consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data used triangulation techniques to check test result data with task-based interview data. There were four aspects in metacognition skills, namely the predictive aspect, the planning aspect, the monitoring aspect, and the evaluation aspect. The results of the study concluded that: (1) Students with high metacognition skills were able to fulfill the aspects of prediction, planning, monitoring, and evaluation well, (2) Students with moderate metacognition skills were able to fulfill the aspects of prediction, planning, monitoring, and evaluation but they were not optimal on their skills, and (3) Students with low metacognition skills have not been able to meet the aspects of prediction, planning, monitoring, and evaluation well.
