Abstract

Batang Extraordinary School or so-called SLB N Batang is a school for children with special needs with SD, SMP, and SMA levels in one management. Among the people with special needs in this special school are people with mental retardation or students who have intelligence far below normal. The application of methods and methods of delivering material is the key for the teacher so that mentally retarded students are able to understand the subject matter. In the subject of Islamic Religious Education students are expected to achieve learning outcomes that include three learning domains, namely the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning methods and their application by Islamic Education teachers as well as the efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers in achieving these learning domains and the constraints of Islamic Education teachers in implementing learning methods. In this study using a qualitative approach with field studies at SLB N Batang. Data collection techniques by observation, interviews, and also documentation obtained directly from the school. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach that begins with data reduction, then data presentation and drawing conclusions using the deductive method. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the methods used by the teacher in Islamic Education learning are the lecture method, the assignment method, the drill method, and the demonstration method. In the learning process the teacher delivers material using simple language, sometimes assisted by sign language so that mentally retarded students easily understand. Giving assignments adjusted to student abilities. In addition, the efforts made in reaching the cognitive realm are slowly and not forcefully, in the affective realm by giving rewards and easy-to-understand lectures, and in the psychomotor realm by means of direct training and demonstrations.
