Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain how the decision process for divorce between husband and wife can occur. This research was conducted on six informants who were three former spouses who were divorced. The research used qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach, using semi-structured interviews. Interviews were conducted on six informants with the criteria that husband and wife who divorced were selected through a purposive technique. The data analysis technique used is in the form of phenomenological analysis by looking at the phenomenon to be studied, reading carefully the arranged data, describing the experience in the field, identifying meaningful units, making structural descriptions, determining the meaning and essence. Of the six informants studied, most of them chose to divorce because of economic factors, other factors because of ongoing disputes and quarrels. Informants have conflicts of approximately one to two years by conducting mediation, and opportunities to improve relations. Considerations that had been long with various discussions but it turned out to be fruitless so one of the couples decided to divorce. The decision to divorce on the part of men and women is certainly different from the side of the wife more towards finance, infidelity, violence and wanting social support while the husband is more concerned with differences in principles and sexual life.
