Abstract

Metal casting has many methods . Some of the most commonly used are sand casting and lost-foam casting. The purpose of the study is to know the comparison of the effect of variations in castings to the porosity , the structure of micro and the impact strength of the cast material . Research is using the material aluminum former whichin remelting in thekitchen smelting . Variationsin temperature castings are used is 700 ° C and 750 ° C, with the method of sand casting and lost-foam casting. Results of testing porosity indicate the product castings variations in temperature castings 750 ° C method of sand casting and lost-foam casting more than the variations of temperature castings 700 ° C . from the structure micro can be found that the variation of temperature Castings 750 o C phase of eutectic silicon (Si), the most large and dense than the variation of temperature castings 700 o C. Micro structure has a hardness value that is the eutectic phase of silicon that is formed will be more dense if the value of hardness is high and if the hardness is high then the castings product is brittle. In the impact test with variations temperature of 700°C,750°C sand casting and lost-foam casting products show that pouring temperature does not significantly affect the impact strength of alumunium castings,seen from the difference in the grade impact strength is very small.
