Abstract

Vegetables and fruit can be found highly in vitamins, minerals and fiber, which are needed in the body’s metabolism. Vegetable and fruit intake can affect nutritional status and physical fitness. The results of the preliminary study on students SD NegeriTotosari 1 and Tunggulsari 1 showed that 93,8% of students had insufficient intake of vegetables and fruit. This study aimed to determine the correlation between vegetable and fruit intake with nutritional status and physical fitness in elementary school students. The study used a cross sectional design, with a total of 74 students who were selected by means of stratified random sampling. Vegetable and fruit intake data were obtained through interviews with the FFQ method, nutritional status data were obtained from anthropometric measurements of body weight and height determined based on the BMI/U index, while physical fitness data were obtained using the Cooper Test method, namely running for 12 minutes. The results showed that the average intake of vegetables and fruit in the poor category was 291,92 grams/day, the nutritional status of students in the normal category was 79,7% and the physical fitness of students in the bad category was 75,7%. Based on statistical tests, it was found that there was no correlation between vegetable and fruit intake and nutritional status (p value = 0.687), there was no correlation between vegetable and fruit intake and physical fitness (p value = 0.314) and there was a correlation between nutritional status and physical fitness (p value = 0.030 ). The results of this study there was no correlation between vegetable and fruit intake with nutritional status and physical fitness, but there was a correlation between nutritional status with physical fitness.
