Abstract

This study aims: (1) determina the appropriateness of mathematics midterm assessment questions towards mathematical instruments oriented to High Order thinking Skills (HOTS). (2) analyzing the suitability of mathematical instruments in the midterm assessment questions oriented to High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). (3) analyzing the work of students. Based on his approach this research is descriptive qualitative. Research time in odd semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. The subject of this research was a matter of essay in the middle of the work of VII grade students of Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo Middle School. The results of this study indicate that the midterm assessment questions are in accordance with the basic competencies and indicators. The midterm assessment questions consist of 5 breakdown questions, 4 of which are included in the HOTS category from the aspect of applying to evaluating. From the results of student work obtained by students from the upper group able to work on HOTS type problems. Students from the middle group are quite capable of working on HOTS type problems. Meanwhile, students from the lower classes are less able to work on HOTS type problems.
