Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, many non-medical volunteers emerged throughout Indonesia, one of which was the Muhammadiyah covid-19 command center (MCCC). MCCC volunteers must face a big risk, namely contracting the virus while on duty, besides that they also experience various impacts of a pandemic in various aspects of life. With the various risks and impacts that must be faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, there are still a group of people who volunteer to help others, one of which is the MCCC Surakarta volunteer. The purpose of this study was to determine how the altruism of Muhammadiyah covid-19 command center volunteers in Surakarta (MCCC) was described. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive analysis approach. The subjects in this study were 4 MCCC Surakarta volunteers with male gender aged 23, 32, 35, and 40 years. Informants in this study were obtained through purposive sampling technique with criteria determined by the researcher, namely volunteers who have been active in MCCC activities from March-May 2020 and are directly involved in the field of disinfectant spraying. The results of this study are the manifestation of altruism in the subject, including encouragement to volunteer based on internal motivation which includes love for the world of volunteers, a sense of wanting to help, a sense of pleasure, responsibility, commitment, and a calling. The subject cannot be separated from the fear of the covid-19 virus, but what makes the subject survive to become an MCCC volunteer is a sense of pleasure in the world of volunteering, wanting to find provisions for the hereafter, and the desire to give charity. All subjects do not expect a reward from their volunteerism that the subject expects, namely the pleasure and reward of Allah, their family also has a social spirit like the subject, and is able to benefit others.
