Abstract
This describe qualitative research aims to describe the ability of mathematics literacy of eighth grade students in solving HOTS based two variable linear equation systems. The intended mathematical literacy capabilities include five components, namely: 1) communication, 2) mathematical, 3) strategies for solving problems, 4) the use of operations and symbol languages, formal languages, and technical languages, and 5) reasoning and giving reasons. The research subjects consisted of six students of class VIII A of Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo Middle School who were selected based on the high, medium, and low scores. The data source of this research came from test results, interviews, and documentation. Triangulation was used to test the validity of the data. Data analysis techniques include reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The result of this study indicate the very low mathematical literacy ability of class VIII A students in solving HOTS based two variable linear equations systems. There is a relationship between the level of difficulty of the HOTS based two variable linear equation system problem with students mathematical literacy abilities.
