Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is to describe the Mathematical Communication Skills of Class XI Students of Senior High School Muhammadiyah Delanggu on Matri in terms of self confidence. The approach in research using qualitative research with the type of case studies. Data collection techniques used were questionnaires, interviews, tests and field notes. The validity of the data in the study used technical triangulation. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research subjects consisted of 3 subjects in which 1 subject represented students with high, medium and low self-confidence categories. The results showed that the students' mathematical communication skills of Senior High School Muhammadiyah Delanggu in terms of student self-confidence: (a) Students with high self-confidence were able to interpret and evaluate mathematical ideas in written and oral form; modeling situations into algebraic expressions; able to discuss conjectures and compelling reasons of mathematical ideas; and respect values, mathematical notation and their role in everyday problems. (b) Students with moderate confidence are able to interpret mathematical ideas in written and oral form, model situations into algebraic form. (c) Students with low self-confidence are able to interpret mathematical ideas in written and oral form even though they are still not accurate. (d) Self-confidence helps to facilitate student communication with others, so that they can have active interactions during learning. During the interaction, the knowledge they have increases, if the interaction is carried out during mathematics learning, their mathematical communication skills will also increase. So that mathematical communication skills can be seen depending on the level of self-confidence that students have. Keywords: Self-Confidence, Mathematical Communication
