Abstract

Purpose: Children's dolanan songs are song that originating from Javanese language which created for children, which are generally sung while playing. Dolanan songs contain meaning of character values that can be instilled in children from an early age. This study aims to examine and analyze the results of research articles that identify various efforts in developing character in early childhood through the song dolanan. Method: The sample of this research article was conducted in several databases using specific search keywords in the 2015-2020 research period. On the search results, it was contained 100 journals that discuss about dolanan songs. but, only 50 journals are met with the criteria for dolanan songs as a medium for character development, only 40 dolanan song journals are originating from Java, and 20 dolanan song journals discussed that dolanan songs used as the media for character development which could applied to early childhood. Results and Discussion: the literature review shows that there is a need for a method or special effort or strategy in the delivery or inculcation of characters in early childhood through a song that matches the characteristics of the child as a learner. There are many various strategies such games, children's dances, music, story books illustration, learning based on local wisdom, musical instruments, implementing dolanan songs in the learning, analyzing the meaning of dolanan songs, reflective methods, and optimizing the teacher's role. Conclusion: character development such as inculcation of life values, leader character, courtesy, discipline and honesty can be done through various methods with dolanan songs.
