Abstract

Anemia is a state of deficiency of red blood cells compared to normal, one of which is caused by consumption of iron (Fe) inhibitors such as tanin in tea. Tanin are known to inhibit the absorption of iron, especially the non-iron heme category. Drinking tea together with meals can inhibit the absorption of Fe so that it will affect hemoglobin levels. This study aims to determine the relationship between tea consumption habits with hemoglobin levels in young women in SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono, Boyolali Regency. This type of observational research with cross sectional design. A sample of 77 female teenage respondents was obtained using proportional random sampling. Data on tea consumption habits were obtained by the method of recall 7 x 24 hours without succession and using the tea consumption habits questionnaire. Hemoglobin level data is obtained by taking blood using the Hemocue method. All data were analyzed using the Rank Spearman test. Most of the girls in Banyudono High School 1 have the amount of tea consumption which is classified as frequent ( 92.7%) and anemia (54,5%). Test the relationship of tea consumption with hemoglobin levels p=0,000 and spearman correlation value (r) of -0,684. There is an association between tea consumption habits and hemoglobin levels and the higher the amount of tea consumption, the lower the hemoglobin level in young women. The advice given is that students should reduce the amount of tea consumption or tea consumption 2-3 hours after a meal and increase the intake of foods containing high Fe
