Abstract

Non-standard word is a variety of languages whose pronunciation and writing do not meet Indonesian language rules or regulations. Therefore, in making an essay you must use standard words that are good and right. But in reality when observing and analyzing the initial data on several student essays there are still many that contain the use of nonstandard forms. The purpose of this study, namely: (1) Describe the form of non-standard words in essays students of SMP Negeri 18 Surakarta. (2) Describe the causes of non-behavior in essays by students of SMP Negeri 18 Surakarta. The method used in this study is a qualitative description. The data in this study are in the form of using non-standard forms in Indonesian students' essays. Data collection techniques used are the refer and note method. While the data analysis technique is done by the matching method. The results of this study indicate that in writing essays there are still sentences containing non-standard forms including: (1) Language Interference; Influenced by regional dialects, influenced by foreign languages, not including a variety of official conversations, without explicit affixes, containing multiple meanings and ambiguity, (2) Containing hyperkorek (correcting the correct form to be wrong), (3) Containing the meaning of pleonasm While the causes of non-stickiness in students' essays include (1) Containing hyperkorek (correcting the correct form to the point of being wrong); Change vowels, add vowels, eliminate vowels, replace consonants, add consonants, (2) Language Interference; Incorrect Words Formation, influence of mother tongue or first language, lack of affixes, incorrect spelling
