Abstract
This study aims to describe the mathematical literacy ability of junior high school students in solving problems of two-variable linear equation systems in terms of cognitive style independence field (FI) and field dependence (FD). The research was carried out at SMP N 3, Boyolali by taking class VIII C as a sample. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection methods used in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use the stages of data reduction, data presentation, conclusion and verification. The results showed that field independence (FI) students had 5 mathematical literacy abilities, namely communication skills, mathematical, strategic choosing to solve problems, using symbol operations and symbol languages, formal languages, and technical languages, reasoning abilities and reasoning. Whereas field dependent students (FD) have 3 mathematical literacy abilities, namely communication skills, mathematical, strategic choosing to solve problems. Thus, field independence students have better mathematical literacy skills than field dependent students
