Abstract
The purpose of this research is to: 1) test the ability of students to solve PISA-oriented mathematical problems in terms of gender, 2) describe the language errors made by students in solving PISA-oriented math problems, 3) describe the concept errors made by students in solving PISA-oriented math problems, and 4) describe the calculated errors made by students in solving PISA-oriented math problems. This type of research usesmix method (quantitative and qualitative) with concurrent triangulation method design. The population in this research were all students of class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kotta Barat Surakarta, the sample was students of class VIII C, amounting to 30 students consisting of 16 male students and 14 female students. Data collection techniques using observation, tests, documentation, and interviews. The validity of the data uses triangulation of techniques and sources. Quantitative data analysis techniques use the Independent Sample Test, while qualitative data analysis techniques consist of three activities that occur simultaneously, namely data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results showed (1) There were differences in mathematical abilities between male and female students. Male students have an average of 69.44 which is higher than female students 55.86. (2) Language errors made by students occur when students do not understand the meaning of the questions. The contributing factor is the lazy students read the questions carefully and thoroughly. (3) Concept errors made by students when applying a formula in accordance with the question request. The contributing factor is the level of students' understanding ability is still low and used to memorize formulas. (4) Counting errors made by students can be seen when completing the results of the calculation of algebraic operations. The contributing factor is the lack of mastery of numeracy techniques and not re-checking the results of the answers.
