Abstract

Junior High School 1 Surakarta is one of the favorite schools in Surakarta, so only students who are good in academic matters and in good morality that can study in this school. However, the implementation of the zoning system policy in 2019 has an impact on the student moral, for example, cheating in exams, leaving the class when changing class hours, and also skipping the class. It is important to instill the good character with the concept of Character Reinforcement Program; by accustoming students to read Qur’an and understanding the meaning contained in the verse will reinforce the character values of the students in school. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the implementation of the Qur’an reading habit to reinforce the character education and what character values are reinforced in the seventh-grade student of Junior High School 1 Surakarta. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the Qur’an reading habit to reinforce the character education and identify values that can be reinforced in learners’ character through the Qur’an reading at the Junior High School 1 Surakarta. This research used the field research in Junior High School 1 Surakarta, and the research approach used is the qualitative approach through a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques were obtained through observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used in this research are data reduction, data display, and verification. The result of the study is that the implementation of character reinforcement program is effective, proven by the enthusiastic response of the students that carried out in the mosque and classically in class. Furthermore, the values that are reinforced in the character reinforcement program are religious values, the value of devotion, the values of honesty, the values of togetherness, the value of responsibility, the value of courtesy, the value of caring for the environment, and social values.
